Southern Lord  just re-released the Vitus classic "LIVE"
This is a long overdue re-release/re-issue (ie: proper documentation!) of this classic
Vitus live album originally released on Hellhound in the early nineties.
The SOUTHERN LORD version comes packaged with an extensive 32 page (!!!)
booklet containing liner notes, and tons of never before seen photos! Ultra-supremo beautiful
re-design by Stephen O' Malley. The essential Vitus lineup of: Wino, Chandler, Adams and Acosta
pounds out many classic Vitus tunes like: Living Backwards Born Too Late ,White Stallions,
Mystic Lady, Dying Inside etc!!!
As with the Southern Lord re-issue of: Saint Vitus- "V",
any fan of true doom metal must have this in their collection!

Hellride "LIVE" review
By Chris Barnes

Love him or hate him, you gotta love then-Black Flag barker Henry Rollins
for recognizing the reluctant genius of Saint Vitus back in the dawn of the ‘80’s.
Somehow, Rollins got legendary ‘Flag guitarist Greg Ginn to sign the band to Ginn’s
fledging SST label… the rest, as they say, is history. Saint Vitus fused first-album Sabbath
nihilism with punk rock ethic to become true innovators in the field of heavy metal.
Talk about flying in the face of trends. Vitus were a stark contrast to the rest of the
SST roster at the time and while everyone else was pogo-ing the crest of punk rock,
Vitus slowed it up, tuned it down and doomed out. Who the hell else was doing that in the
States at that time?? SST’s founding contrarians Black Flag even borrowed from Vitus
as evidenced in the classically oppressive 2nd side of My War. Even Ginn and Saint Vitus
guitarist Dave Chandler had similar approaches to sound and guitar, loud,
raw but ingeniously jazz-like. No rules. Vitus didn’t exactly light up the charts,
toiling in near obscurity for the majority of their career, but their influence on
heavy metal and doom metal in general is incalculable.

The folks at Southern Lord have always recognized the primitive genius of Saint Vitus,
and the reissue of 1990’s classic Live recording is a celebration of the band.
Of note is an exceptionally done 32-page booklet of liner notes and previously
unreleased photos that is a must for any fan of doom metal. There is a lot of TLC
in this packaging that’s tough to come by nowadays.

The recording itself captures Vitus Mach II (Wino, Chandler, Adams and Acosta)
in their best environment live, loud and raw. The band kick things off with a inspired rendition
of Living Backwards, Wino in full command with his patented sorcerer-timbre,
just on the verge of going hoarse. When the band charges into White Stallions from
Looking Glass, it’s goosebump material, I’m telling you. Clear Windowpane finds Chandler
in all his volcanic atonal guitar-pyro glory, channeling God-knows-what he doesn’t use
the wah-pedal as an effect so much as a torture-device. We're even treated to a drum
solo Led Zep style, as Acosta goes bonkers on the bean cans.

Hats off to Southern Lord for bringing Live out of the archives.
A must for any fan of doom metal. Know your roots.

Also available, "V" featuring the classic doom anthem I BLEED BLACK
and the mid-tempo stomp of the often covered Angry Man.
The production is raw, pure and primitive, the dying embodiment of DOOM.
Besides the classic album there is an  added a bonus video of Winos very first show with Vitus.!
It not just one song its the entire show!!
The LP version packaging is stunning and adheres to the strict vinyl-quality Southern Lord
releases are known for. It is limited to 1,000 copies.
